This project included (13) medium and some large Torrey pine and Coast Live oak trees. About half were relocated using 90 inch tree spade, the other half were boxed and craned into new location, making room for new campus housing on Old Fort Ord. Challenges were sandy soil and PG&E lines in way of crane boom operation. We scheduled well in advance with PG&E and used lots of water on the trees, before, during and after the transplant process. 100% transplant success rate.
SJSU had an extensive student union project in the works, and several palm trees had to be temporarily taken off site to make room for construction. The trees were maintained for two years at off-site tree farm in Gilroy CA. MTM is one of the few companies in California that offers off-site tree storage and care.
